![]() The next day Arukenimon convinces Ken to come with her, using the "kidnapped" children as motivation. On Christmas Day Mummymon and Arukenimon cruise around Tokyo luring children into a truck. Having ken just be a whiny normal kid for the rest of the season made the character way less interesting to watch than he was when he was still a villain. While most of the time the darkness and violence only happens to the Digimon, there are a few instances of the creatures' human partners having very bad things happen to them as well and perhaps one of the darkest happens during Digimon Adventure 02. Just imagine if he didn't lose his super intelligence after becoming "good", he could have used those same skills and tactics to make the protagonists' partners more useful fighters maybe instead of simply throwing all their attacks at BlackWarGreymon and then getting overpowered time after time they could have tried different things a more advanced plan (like those that decided fights in V-tamer ) or whatever they could have come up with with a good genius on their side. I mean if we look back at the aforementioned tactics As the Kaiser ken was able pretty much stomp the protagonists Armor Digimon at one point with simple Bakemon by making them fight with teamwork while directing them. In order to succesful write an extremely intelligent character you also need an intelligent story where his skills could be applied and I don't really think 02 could offer that. It's not like they even took that much of an adventage of him being a genious when he was the Kaiser His abilities were only showcased in two ways, one was his ability to program evil rings and spirals which might as well have been magic so it wasn't really much of an relatable task and the second was some of the tactics he used when deploying his underlings or during the football match but aside from that he wasn't actually acting like a genius. It was alright for him to be a genius when he was still evil but once he changes sides he's not allowed to be a genius anymore. This was what the biggest cop-out was for me. However it turned out that even his heightened intelligence was caused by the dark spore (it is mentioned that all his grades got worse after episode 21 and that he was completely normal since then) so technically he was downgraded after being redeemed. Remember, while ken was the Digimon Kaiser he was supposed to be a child genious someone who would have skipped grades if the school system would have allowed it. The most meaningful message you can make with that is a pretty bog-standard "Yea, even this monster deserves compassion and forgiveness." Yes, it's a children's cartoon, so the villain will be by definition cartoonish, but does it have to be so extreme?Ĭlick to expand.Ironically it would be more logical the other way around. ![]() Sure, it's something that happens in the real world and is therefore realistic, but setting the Digimon equivalent of a 4chan/reddit poster as your villain is just.boring it's like creating a villain whose entire life revolves around kicking puppies, and it invites no discussion or contemplation from the viewer. When people are pointlessly cruel and destructive on the internet or in games, we call them trolls and assholes, and it's a simple matter to demonstrate that they are uncontroversially, objectively a detriment to society. "Villains" like the Emperor and Yuu are uninteresting to me. ![]() It's up to you whether this makes the defeat of his plans happy or tragic. To him, the objective good of such a world far outweighs the objective good of not committing the necessary sins along the way, so that it is a greater crime not to enact this plan. ![]() He wants to create a perfect world where pointless, stupid accidents like the one that left his sister in a wheelchair won't happen. ![]()
